How to Store Wood Pellets Properly Year-Round
To get the best results from your natural oak wood pellets, proper storage is essential. While our pellets are carefully packaged to preserve quality, a few simple precautions will ensure they stay dry, clean, and ready to use no matter the season.
Keep Them Dry
Moisture is the number one enemy of wood pellets. Always store them in a dry location – ideally indoors or under a waterproof cover if kept outside. Use pallets to keep bags off the ground and avoid contact with damp surfaces.
Protect from Humidity
Even if it’s not raining, high humidity can affect pellet quality. A well-ventilated shed, garage, or covered storage bin can help regulate moisture and air circulation.
Avoid Excessive Handling
Frequent movement can cause pellets to break down into dust, which burns poorly and clogs stoves. Keep handling to a minimum by storing pellets close to where you’ll use them.
Check Packaging Integrity
If storing for several months, occasionally inspect bags for tears or signs of moisture. Reseal or transfer to airtight containers if needed.
Proper storage protects your investment and ensures your heating system performs efficiently all year long.
